What is ImageOrganizer ?
------------------------
Read short description in file FILE_ID.DIZ to get an overview.
Read chapters "Features", "General", "Single User Image Organizer",
"Multiuser Image Organizer", and "CD-ROM Distribution of Images" below.
ImageOrganizer has ON-LINE HELP. Select 'Help' from the HELP-MENU
within ImageOrganizer. Most of this file is a copy of screens
and Help-screens within ImageOrganizer.
Machine Requirements
--------------------
PC: IBM Compatible, 386 SX or higher
(Tested on 386SX-16 MHz, 386DX-33 MHz,
486DX-33 MHz.)
PC-RAM: Program is tested with 4 and 8 MByte.
(The more RAM you have, the faster and better you can
smooth-pan Images larger than the screen. You should have more RAM than
the largest Image you want to display. If you want to display a 9 MByte
Image, consider to install 10++ MBytes of RAM in your PC. This will avoid
time-consuming disk-swapping of the Image. It will improve 'Image Load Time'
dramatically.)
VGA or SUPER-VGA card
16 Colors is OK. 256 Colors is better !
32K/64K Colors is excellent !
(A windows accelerator card will enhance
smooth-pan Images larger than the screen.)
DOS: Toolbook requires DOS 3.1 or higher.
(Program is tested with DOS 5.0.)
WINDOWS: 3.1 or higher.
(Program is tested with 3.1 and 3.11.
If you insist on using Windows 3.0, contact
Data Research for a special Windows 3.0 version.)
DISK: Program requires 4.1 MByte after installation.
About 2.0 MByte of this is example Images.
(They can of course be deleted to free diskspace.)
(During installation, you should have 10 MByte free.)

FEATURES
--------
Userfriendly.
Hypertext-link between Image-description and Image.
Fast display of the Image from the Content. (One click on the text !)
Use ImageOrganizer as an educational aid showing pictures when talking.
Smooth-pan large Images. (an Image of 9 MByte has been tested !
Hold down the right mouse button to move the image.)
Sort the Content alphabetically.
Free-text search.
The Image is not stored once more, it stays
in the directory, on the disk, where you left it last !
WHAT CAN THIS PROGRAM DO FOR YOU ?
----------------------------------
GENERAL
-------
With the ImageOrganizer, you can save the location of, and a description
of each .BMP Image accessible by your computer ! The Images must, however,
be stored on the disk by another utility. For instance a scanner.
ImageOrganizer can read Images stored on any disk that can be reached
from Windows, provided that the disk appears as a legal drive-letter.
Convenient disks to be used can be your local harddisk,
a 120 MByte Bernoulli Disk, a 600 MByte CD-ROM, a 650 MByte MO drive,
a large 1 GByte SCSI disk on a workstation in a network environment,
or a 30 GByte MO-Juke Box, etc.
The ImageOrganizer is a passive SW-tool. This means that it will never
write to your Image-files. Once ImageOrganizer has looked up the
location of your Image, it only reads it. The Image can later be
viewed from the Content, with a click !
The Content-pages display the informative text-descriptions associated
with each Image. They can be sorted alphabetically, or after a key-text
following each Image. You can free-text search within all recordfields
in the database.
Since location (Path and Filename) to all your Images is remembered by
ImageOrganizer, you can Cut and paste the location between your other
Image-utilities.
Single User Image Organizer
---------------------------
This is your Personal image organizer. Use it together with a scanner,
as a Papersaving Information Archive. A hand-scanner suits well.
An A4-scanner is excellent ! Your scanner-SW must be able to store the
Image as a .BMP file. Once the Image is stored on your disk, use
ImageOrganizer to look up the location of the file. Make an informative
text-description that shall be associated with the Image. Throw away the
paper. You will soon have less paper around ! (But don't forget to take
backup !)
If you have a large hard-disk (i.e. 1 GByte) for your Image archive, or
a 30 GByte MO-Juke Box (excellent !), you can really meet the future with
less paper in your office ! Use ImageOrganizer to Organize and view your
Images.
You can of course use this SW with a disk < 20 MByte for the Image Archive
too !
With a CD-ROM programmer you have unlimited space to make copies of your
Papersaving Archive. Store backup copies on a safe place. Save shipping-cost
by sending large documentation packages on CD-ROM , instead of several
pounds of paper, to co-workers, customers etc. Let ImageOrganizer view
Images from the CD.
Use ImageOrganizer to catalogue all your favourite (.BMP) Images stored
on your shareware CD-ROM's !
Multiuser Image Organizer
-------------------------
Use ImageOrganizer in your company as a cost effective, user friendly,
Papersaving Archive. Keep your staff updated with the latest information
without distributing paper. Use ImageOrganizer to distribue
Graphical information to your employees.
Each personal-computer must have a copy of ImageOrganizer to gain access
to your Company's Image Archive. You also need a computer network between the
Image Archive and each personal-computer that shall have access to the
Image Archive.
The Image Archive, is presumably a large hard-disk (1 GByte), or a
MO-Juke Box (30 GByte or larger). It must be located on a server,
accessible through the computer network, by your personnel authorized to do so.
Your computer network should have a security access system to prevent
unauthorized personnel to gain access to your Company's Image Archive.
To convert information from paper to digitized Images, you need a scanner,
presumably an A4 scanner. Perhaps with an automatic paper-feed system.
Or you can contact one of the many available Image Scanning Bureaus.
The scanner-SW, or the bureau, must be able to store the Images as .BMP files.
[The .BMP format is the currently one supported. This is not the most
(computer-) effective way of storing Images, or information at all, in an
application like this. If some of you out there like this program, but
sugests a more suitable format, write to me. I will consider to implement
that format in a future version.]
CD-ROM Distribution Of Images
-----------------------------
Do you publish and distribute Images on CD-ROM ?
ImageOrganizer can be your cost effective and user friendly viewing tool for
viewing Images directly from the CD-ROM. The user can easily locate and
read the description of each Image before viewing it with a click on the
description text !
Include a copy of ImageOrganizer on each CD-ROM that you distribute.
You must of course pre-program ImageOrganizer, by locating the Images
to be viewed, and make a descriptive text of each Image.
You must also have a special Publishers License from Data Research to
be allowed to program and distribute ImageOrganizer as a viewing tool
enclosed your CD-ROM product.
